To understand silica sol, first understand these 6 characteristics!

In fact, there are many types of silica sol, which can be divided into acidic silica sol and

alkaline silica sol according to their properties. Among them, acidic silica sol, also called silicicacid aqueous solution, is a colloidal solution obtained by dispersing fine particles of high molecular silica in water.

1. Silica sol has strong adsorption. Under certain conditions, a large number of network voids produced by a large number of micelles in silica sol can adsorb inorganic and organic substances to a certain extent.

2. Silica sol has a large specific surface area. Generally 150-300M2/g..

3. Silica sol has good adhesion. Because the size of the micelles is uniform, about 10-20m/u, it will produce a certain bonding strength after air drying, but the strength is

very small. If silica sol is added to a fibrous or granular material, it will become a firm

gel   structure after drying and curing, which will result in greater cohesion.

4. Silica sol has good temperature resistance. Generally speaking, it can withstand high

temperatures around 1600°C.

5. Silica sol has good hydrophilicity and strong oleophobicity. It can be diluted to any

concentration with distilled water or ion-free pure water, and the stability increases with the increase of dilution; when added to organic matter or various metal ions, it will become oleophobic.

6. In addition, silica sol has high dispersibility, good wear resistance and good light transmittance, and can be used as a good dispersant, preservative, flocculant, coolant, etc.

In general, acidic silica sols are characterized by large surface area and adsorption, good adhesion and high temperature resistance, and highly dispersed properties such as water resistance and skid resistance. Acidic silica sol is mainly used in textiles, electronics, refractory materials, solid batteries and other fields. In addition, silica sol has been used in many industries and has brought benefits to many areas ofproduction and life, bringing people more pollution-free production, which can not only play a very important role, but also ensure the normal existence of the environment .
